New Year Weight Loss

Here’s a few tips to help you start your weight loss journey on the right foot.

Accountability

Having an attainable goal is more often achieved with the accountability of a loved one. According to a study by Kansas State University, working out with a friend increases your productivity by 200 percent. This is because we feel pushed to keep up with one another. Having a strong support system might just be the key motivator to help keep you on track to reaching your weight loss goals!

Eating Mindfully

It’s very easy to fall into the trap of overeating when we aren’t mindful of our meals. Eating a meal while watching tv has shown to cause overeating due to distraction. When our brain is focused on another task, our body tends to ignore the “full” signals your stomach is sending your brain. Foods high in fats and sugars are especially dangerous, a handful of candy can go to full bag very quickly when your mind is focused on other tasks.

Measurability

Goals can often fall by the wayside if they feel unattainable and results aren’t always clear if your goal isn’t clearly measurable. Measurable progress can help boost motivation and keep you on track to achieving your goals. How do you plan to measure your weight loss goals? Some prefer a target weight or BMI while others might be aiming to eat cleaner to help ease aches and pains that come with age. Whatever your goal, be sure to choose something you can easily measure to keep track of your progress. Don’t be afraid to start small! Lifestyle changes are more likely to stick if you allow yourself to acclimate to your healthier choices.

Reward Yourself!

You’ve chosen to better care for your body, that’s something to celebrate! Don’t be afraid to give yourself rewards with each small success. Maybe that’s a coffee date with a loved one or a trip to the movies. Give yourself something to look forward to as you check of your milestones to help you keep interested and engaged with your goals.
